According to us Tanote Bay on Koh Tao was certainly the best spot for snorkeling on whole island. In the bay there is a beautiful and clean white sand beach surrounded by swaying palm trees and lush green jungle. The scene is just like from a movie. Perfect tropical paradise, good for relax and underwater activities.
So if you decided to explore Koh Tao, Tanote bay is a must-visit place for any traveler. We created small but detailed guide about Tanote Bay on Koh Tao.
Where is Tanote Bay
Tanote Bay is situated on the eastern side of Koh Tao, which is known for its scenic beauty, clear waters, and excellent opportunities for snorkeling and scuba diving.
Where to stay on Koh Tao
The most popular area to stay is around Sairee Beach. You’ll find most restaurants around. However, this area is also a bit too loud, both during the day and night. If you’re coming to Koh Tao to relax, stay near one of many beaches. Our favorite is Tanote Bay.

How to get to Tanote Bay
Since there isn’t any public transportation on Koh Tao the best option is to rent a motorbike. Motorbikes can be rented from 200THB for 1 day.
Another option is to hire a taxi but this will be more expensive. So in case you’re coming on motorbike there is enough parking space and it’s for free.
Beach at Tanote Bay Koh Tao
Tanote beach is quite large therefore there is enough space for beach activities and sunbathing. However there isn’t much space in the shadow.
In case you dont want to get sunburnt, please always use reef safe sunscreen to protect our beautiful underwater life.
During our stay on Koh Tao, Tanote beach was always clean. In case you forget to bring some snacks or water with you, don’t worry, you can buy some food and drinks on the beach.
TIP: Did you know that all ATMs in Thailand charge you 220TBH (6€) for withdrawal? It’s a lot, right? Keep this in mind and rather than withdrawing little amounts too often do it once or twice in large amounts.
Cliff jumping Tanote Bay Koh Tao
This is also the right place for adventure seekers and cliff jumping enthusiasts. There is a huge rock only 30 meters from the shore of Tanote beach.
It’s easily accesible from the water but you have to climb a little bit. The rope is attached to the rock so we didn’t find it difficult to climb up.
But once you’re up, there is no other way back than jumping from the cliff. The jump is only 4 to 6 meters high and water is certainly deep enough. We certainly had a lot of fun jumping from the cliff, hope you’ll have too!
Snorkeling at Tanote Bay
Snorkeling at Tanote Bay was for us the best on Koh Tao although there are other great spots on the island. Underwater life around the rock formation is truly amazing!
We have never seen such a beautiful corals like here. There is also soo many fish, just grab your gopro, go exploring and take as many pictures as possible.
In addition to its reputation as an excellent location for cliff jumping and snorkeling, Tanote Bay stands out as one of the top choices for scuba diving on the island.
