Where is Tal Mixta Cave

Tal-Mixta Cave is located on the northern coast of Gozo, overlooking Ramla Bay. It sits on a hillside near the village of Nadur.

How to get there

Tal Mixta Cave is easily accessible, and you have several options. I’ll describe all of them in detail.

By car

The easiest and most convenient way to reach the cave is by car. You can just set the directions to Tal-Mixta Cave and follow the route to Nadur. The last part of the road is a rough dirt path, so drive slowly.

You can park your car near the end of the road, but not at the end, because there are signs that parking is strictly prohibited. We left our car around 50 meters away from the signs on the right side of the road.

From the parking, follow the road, and you will reach the cave entrance in around 5 minutes.

TIP: Are you looking for a reliable car rental service? We recommend Discover Cars, which we use whenever we need a car for our trip. Don’t forget to add full coverage for the best protection.

Renting with Discover Cars gives you flexibility because you can cancel with full refunds up to 48 hours before vehicle pickup.

By scooter or quadbike

Renting a scooter or quadbike is a great option to explore Gozo at your own pace, and the cave is easily accessible by both.

You can rent a scooter in Malta and come to Gozo by ferry or at the Gozo port after arriving.

Quad bikes are an exciting and adventurous way to explore Gozo. With many unpaved and rugged roads, they offer better stability than scooters. Book your quad bikes now, and if something happens, you can cancel up to 24 hours in advance for a full refund.

By bus

Reaching the cave by bus is a less convenient way, but if you want to save some money, then it’s a good option.

Take bus 322 from Mgarr Harbour, right outside the ferry terminal, and ride to Qasab. Alternatively, if you’re coming from Victoria, hop on bus 302 and get off at Qasab.

From the Qasab bus stop, it’s time to walk. It’s only 1.8 kilometers, and it takes around 15-20 minutes at a normal pace.

By hiking

A scenic hike from Ramla Beach leads to Tal Mixta Cave. It takes around 30 minutes to get there, and the last part of the dirt trail is steep. No shops are along the trail, so bring enough water.

What to expect

The view from Tal Mixta Cave took our breath away. Expect nothing less than pure, untouched beauty.

It offers a stunning panoramic view of Ramla Beach, a golden stretch of sand, turquoise water, and surrounding green hills.

The wide cave opening creates a perfect natural frame for incredible photos. Compared to other tourist spots, Tal Mixta Cave is usually less crowded.

We came around 9:30 AM during the off-season and were completely alone. We decided to prepare our tripod and took postcard-worthy images.

When we were leaving around 10 AM, we met just a few people heading to the cave. So, if you want to enjoy this place alone, we highly recommend coming early in the morning.

However, the light conditions might not be the best since the viewpoint faces west. But it’s a perfect spot for watching sunsets.

As mentioned, there are a couple of important rules to follow. Drones are not allowed in the area, and camping and BBQs are prohibited. The cave is on private property, and these are the owner’s rules.

There are no facilities (toilets, shops, or restaurants), so bring water and anything else you need. We didn’t mind that there were no amenities because it was less touristy and had amazing natural vibes.

Ramla Beach Viewpoint

There is another Ramla Beach Viewpoint, 200 meters away from the cave, directly on the way from the parking lot. The views are amazing, and it’s also a great photo spot, so give it a chance.
