The Teletubbies Hill, also known as Bukit Teletubbies, is an area on Nusa Penida in Indonesia with unusually shaped round hills. The place got its name from the famous kids’ show, which features a similar-looking landscape.
While this place isn’t worth visiting on its own, it’s a perfect stop when exploring other attractions in the area. We loved coming during the sunset to sit down and enjoy the beautiful nature, finally slowing down after a long day of exploring.
Here’s all you need to know to get the most out of your visit.

Key Highlights
⭐️ Best time to visit: sunrise or sunset for the best colors
⭐️ Best months to visit: all year long
⭐️ How to get there: motorbike, private driver, guided tour
⭐️ Entrance fee: free
⭐️ Other places to visit nearby: Kelingking Beach, Diamond Beach, Tembeling Beach & Forest
Quick Overview
The best times to visit are sunrise or sunset. When the sky is full of different shades of orange, the area transforms into an incredible photo spot.
While it’s generally best to visit the island during the dry season between May and October, the hills are lush green during the monsoon season.
We rented a motorbike to explore the area, but you can hire a private car with a driver. Another option is to join one of the guided tours, which we recommend below.
You can visit the area FOR FREE.

How to get to Teletubbies Hill
Rent a motorbike
Our favorite choice when exploring new places is always renting a motorbike. Especially in SE Asia, it’s often the cheapest and most convenient way to travel around. Renting a motorbike also comes with a lot of freedom and flexibility.
We rented our bikes from Doel Hadi Rental, near the Banjar Nyuh pier. The rental price starts at 80,000 IDR per day, so making a reservation in advance might be wise.
Most roads are in good condition, with occasional potholes. However, they are often narrow.

Private car with a driver
Check availability and price for a private car hire on Nusa Penida.
Hiring a private car with a driver is another option that allows you to be flexible in your plans. Your day starts with a pickup at the port or your hotel. You can also benefit from an English-speaking guide who can help you organize the day.
It’s the perfect way to explore the island at your own pace and tailor the trip to your wishes. Additionally, the air-conditioned car makes the whole day more comfortable.

The best time to visit
Regarding the best time of day, I’d recommend visiting at sunrise or sunset. Not only is it better for stunning photos, but you’ll also encounter fewer tourists.
We came late in the evening and didn’t meet anyone else. I doubt this place gets too crowded during the day, either.
Seasonally, Teletubbies Hill looks best during or right after the rainy season, when nature is more lush due to the rainfall. The area is beautifully green from November / December until April.
May starts the dry season when the grass slowly turns to yellow tones. From June until October, the hills will be dry and covered in brown.

The whole area is an open space and is entirely free to enter. So feel free to park your motorbike/car anywhere along the road.

What to Expect at Teletubbies Hill
Teletubbies Hill is a peaceful rural area that offers a rather “off-the-beaten-path” experience. It’s certainly not one of those places to come, grab a quick pic, and rush to the next stop. On the contrary, it’s where you can come to enjoy peace and nature.
Watch the sunset: Thanks to its location, the area provides a perfect spot to watch sunrise or sunset. Soak in the beauty of nature as the sky transforms with vibrant hues.

Have a picnic: Pack some snacks and enjoy a relaxed meal with an incredible backdrop!
Walk around: While you can enjoy the views without walking anywhere, it’s a great idea to stroll around and see all the different perspectives.
Take photos: Don’t miss the opportunity to create everlasting memories here! We also loved flying our drone, which gave us a completely different view of the landscape.

Where to eat nearby
- Warung Senja: Not only does this place serve tasty local food, but it also provides excellent views. Thanks to its location at the top of a hill, you can enjoy watching a sunset from here.
- Warung Paris: Tasty Indonesian food for reasonable prices served by a local family in a simple restaurant.

Where to stay near Teletubbies Hills
Staying directly at Teletubbies Hills isn’t the most convenient option — the area is remote and doesn’t have any nearby hotels, restaurants, or cafés.
We recommend staying in the Atuh & Diamond Beach area instead, where you’ll find peaceful stays surrounded by greenery, a few cozy restaurants, and easy access to Teletubbies Hills for sunrise or sunset.

Take a look at the hotels we’d happily book again:

The villas are spacious and calm — perfect for a few days of quiet luxury after exploring the island’s cliffs.
Best for: Couples and travelers who want a private, beachfront escape with comfort and style.

⭐️⭐️ Aloka Penida – A laid-back hillside stay surrounded by greenery, with bright rooms, a small pool, and a relaxed vibe. It’s peaceful but still close enough to reach the main sights easily, making it a great middle-ground option for travelers who value comfort without overpaying.
Best for: Couples and travelers looking for a calm, mid-range stay near the beaches.

⭐️ Atuh Forest Cottage – This family-run spot feels genuinely local and tucked away in nature. Simple yet cozy cottages, fresh breakfasts, and friendly hosts make it feel like a small home away from home on the island. It’s just a few minutes from Atuh and Diamond Beach — ideal if you want to catch sunrise without a long drive.
Best for: Budget travelers and nature lovers who prefer quiet, authentic stays.

Other Things to do on Nusa Penida
Broken Beach & Angel’s Billabong | Some of the most popular attractions in Nusa Penid’a. Angels Billabong is a tidal infinity pool, where you can watch huge waves crashing on the cliffs. Broken Beach is popular for its unusual shape.
Tembeling Forest | Another less-known spot perfect for relaxation in nature. You ride a motorbike through an enchanting forest to the coast. There’s a beautiful natural pool built right on the beach, with incredible views.

Peguyangan Waterfall | I’d say this hidden gem deserves a place on the list of top Nusa Penida attractions. After climbing down the cliff by the infinite stairs, you’ll find a small temple with three sacred infinity pools overlooking the ocean in which you can swim.
Kelingking Beach | The famous T-Rex beach is an attraction not to be missed. Its incredible shape attracts many tourists each day. If you have energy and time, we recommend going all the way down to the beach.
Diamond Beach | A beautiful beach surrounded by tall cliffs with huge rock formations sticking out of the ocean. It looks the most attractive from above, but it’s worth climbing down, too. Don’t skip the Atuh Beach where you can go swimming.
