Siargao is an island in the western part of the Philippines. It’s known as surfers paradise since it has some of the best waves in the world. It’s getting more and more popular among non-surfers, too.
The island offers breathtaking beaches, never-ending rows of coconut palm trees, and many stunning attractions. Additionally, there are plenty of good restaurants and accommodation choices, too.
In this blog post, I will cover all the details and things you need to know when getting from Surigao to Siargao.
Where is Siargao
Siargao is an Island that lies in a province called Surigao del Norte. It has nine municipalities. Philippine Sea surrounds the island to the east and you’ll find Dinagat Sound to the west.
What’s interesting, is that when standing on the eastern coast of Siargao, there’s almost endless ocean and the United States is far in the distance. It’s basically on the edge of the world.
The whole island is surrounded by reefs and it’s also home to extensive mangrove forest reserves. You can even spot crocodiles here! The eastern coast is almost straight, with one inlet – Pilar.
Since currents and winds are coming to Siargao straight from the Pacific Ocean without any interruption, the island has amazing surfing conditions!

Check availabilitySurigao to Siargao overview
The distance between Surigao and Siargao is only 61 kilometers. You have two options on this route:
- By plane
- By ferry
While it’s usually more convenient and faster to travel by plane, this is not the case. The reason is that there are no direct flights between Surigao to Siargao. Therefore, traveling by ferry will be easier and faster.
Getting from Surigao to Siargao by plane
Travel time: 5 – 20 hours
Price: from 60€
If you want to travel to Siargao by plane, the direct flights are only available from two airports – Manila and Cebu. The airlines operating on this route are Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines. When traveling from Manila, you will likely make a quick stop on Cebu and transfer to a smaller airplane.
When traveling from Surigao City to Siargao, you can also go by plane. However, I don’t find this option very practical. Since there’s no direct flight, you would have to fly back to Cebu Island first.
If you’ve seen the map of the Philippines, you know that Cebu Island is in the opposite direction.
It takes a minimum of 5 hours, while some flights are even 20+ hours long. The price is also higher than the ferry. Because of this I don’t recommend using plane.

Moreover, you won’t find any shops to buy food or drinks in this area. It’s just a simple shelter with a roof.
A small terminal fee must be paid upon entering the airport. Keep some cash handy.

You can purchase your tickets online in advance. I would advise this especially when travelling in high season. Since there are only 3 ferries per day, you don’t want to find out they’re all sold out. I will link the tickets down below.
The second option is to buy tickets directly at the port. Right at the entrance to the port, there’s a small booth with ferry schedule and prices. You can get your ferry tickets here as well.

You have three options to choose from – Tourist, Tourist AC, or Business class.
The basic tourist class is an open-air ride, therefore there’s no AC. But it’s not necessary at all, since it’s quite windy. It’s a great option for those who want to avoid air-conditioned spaces.
Tourist AC class is indoor seating with AC. The price for both types of tourist classes is the same.
Lastly, there’s business class. Its capacity is only 13 people. This class is separated from the rest. You’ll have more comfortable seats and a snack should be included in the price.
