When we first saw photos of Banyu Wana Amertha in Bali, Indonesia, we were overwhelmed. It looked like one of those places that seemed too good to be true—lush greenery, four waterfalls, and barely any crowds.
Honestly, we were a bit skeptical. We’ve visited a few spots that looked out of this world online but felt disappointing in real life. But this one? It exceeded all our expectations. It’s one of the best waterfalls to visit from Ubud or if you’re exploring the north.
Banyu Wana Amertha turned out to be one of the most beautiful and peaceful places we’ve visited in Bali. This one felt untouched and truly magical. If you’re looking for a quiet nature escape with multiple waterfalls in one place, this spot is worth the drive.

Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall is tucked away in the lush highlands of North Bali, near the village of Wanagiri in the Buleleng Regency. It’s about a 15-minute drive from Munduk and 10 minutes from Bedugul.
It is part of a hidden jungle area with multiple falls along a forest trail. It is surrounded by dense greenery, coffee plantations, and mountain views. The location feels remote and untouched, which adds to its charm.
From Canggu, it takes around 1 hour and 45 minutes by car, while from Ubud, it’s about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Rent a scooter
Renting a scooter is the easiest way to reach the waterfall, especially if you want to explore the area at your own pace. The roads to Wanagiri are mostly paved but can get narrow and winding closer to the entrance.
It’s about a 1.5-hour ride from Canggu and around 1.5 hours from Ubud.
Most accommodations in Bali offer scooter rentals, usually starting around 60,000 IDR per day. Ensure the scooter has proper brakes, as many hills are in the north.
TIP: If you plan to spend a few days in the north, we recommend renting a scooter in the south. There aren’t many rentals in the north, and the options are limited.
Hire a driver
If you’re not comfortable driving yourself, hiring a driver is a stress-free option. Drivers know the best routes and can wait for you while you explore. This is a common choice for travelers coming from Ubud or Canggu.

When we visited, the entrance fee to Banyu Wana Amertha was IDR 40,000 per person. Parking our scooter cost an additional IDR 2,000. Car parking is probably gonna be a little bit more.
You’ll pay for everything at a small ticket booth before entering the trail.
There’s an option to skip the 1 km trail (about 10 minutes on foot) and take a scooter instead. Local drivers usually wait at both ends of the path. The round-trip ride costs IDR 50,000.
Opening hours
Opening hours: 07:00 – 17:00
The official opening hours are 7:00 to 17:00. There’s no gate, so you can technically arrive earlier or stay later. Just keep in mind the ticket booth is only open during those hours, so make sure to pay your entrance fee if you come outside that window.
What to expect
The trail
The walk to the first waterfall takes about 15 minutes. The path is mostly paved with concrete and has a gentle downhill slope (minimal incline). It’s an easy trail that anyone can follow, surrounded by fruit plants and greenery.
About halfway down, you’ll reach a small shelter—this is a resting point, and sometimes, a local is there selling snacks and drinks.
This spot also works like a crossroads: from here, the trail continues to the first, second, third, and fourth waterfalls, forming a loop that returns from a different direction.
If you prefer not to walk this part, local drivers are available with scooters at both ends of the trail. A round-trip ride costs IDR 50,000. However, walking is necessary between the waterfalls themselves, as there are stairs and no access for motorbikes.
The first waterfall
From the crossroads, it’s just a 5-minute walk down a set of stairs to reach the first waterfall. It’s located in a small valley and surrounded by a lush wall of greenery.
The waterfall itself is more of a gentle stream, especially noticeable during the rainy season or shortly after rain. In dry periods, it might barely be visible at all.
The water falls onto a rock in a small pond below. While the pond isn’t deep enough for swimming, it’s a nice spot to cool off. There’s also a small cave where you can walk and stand directly behind the falling water.
Even though it’s not the most impressive one, it’s right along the path and worth a quick stop.
The second waterfall
Just 3 minutes further from the first one, this was our favorite of the four. It flows down a wide green wall covered in leaves, with thin streams falling over rocks and plants. It’s not powerful, but it’s incredibly beautiful.
Two shallow ponds are beneath the waterfall, separated by a natural rock ledge. You can walk right towards the streams without getting fully wet. The upper pond is only ankle deep, while the lower one is slightly deeper.
The water is very clean and refreshing. During our visit, no one was swimming, but I believe it’s allowed.
There’s also a wooden shelter nearby where you can take a short break and enjoy the view.
The third waterfall
It takes about 10 minutes to reach the third waterfall. The path is beautiful, and you can see it from above before you head down a set of stairs into the valley.
This is the largest of the four. It’s similar in style to the second one, with water flowing down a green wall and reddish rocks in several strong streams. There’s a lot of spray around, so keep your camera protected — it’s not the easiest spot for photos.
The pool at the bottom is deeper than the previous ones, and some visitors go for a quick swim here. The water is pretty cold, but it’s a great way to cool off.
The fourth waterfall
The fourth waterfall is next to the third one — we almost didn’t realize it was a separate one. It’s made up of two smaller streams flowing down side by side into the same pool as the third.
While not as tall or dramatic, it adds a nice touch to the whole scene and makes the area feel even more special.

- Green Kopi Restaurant – Amazing place surrounded by hills with an incredible view. It offers both international and local cuisine. There’s also a pool (paid).
- Noord Cafe – Superb place with lovely views and tasty meals.
- Warung Makan Neriki – The go-to place for lunch with a beautiful lake view.
Best time to visit
We visited around 11 AM and only met a few people on the trail. But the place is getting more and more popular, so if you want a quieter experience, come early in the morning or later in the afternoon.
Sunrise isn’t visible from the falls, as the area is deep in the forest. But early light filtering through the trees creates a peaceful atmosphere. Sunset is better—the light gets soft and warm, making the falls look even more magical.
The dry season (April to October) is ideal—the trail is safer, and the waterfalls look their best. After rain, however, it can get muddy and slippery, so proper shoes help.
Tips for visiting
- Wear good shoes – The trail is easy but can get slippery, especially after rain. Flip-flops aren’t a great idea.
- Bring cash – You’ll need it for the entrance fee, scooter ride, and small snacks or drinks at the entrance.
- Carry water and snacks – There are no shops nearby, just a small stall by the parking area.
- Go early or late – For fewer people and softer light. Midday can be hotter and more crowded.
- Take your time – There’s more than one attraction here. The short forest walk is beautiful and peaceful, so don’t rush it.
- Use the toilet before heading down – There are basic facilities near the entrance, but nothing along the trail.
- Respect the area – Don’t leave trash, don’t climb rocks where it’s not safe, and avoid loud music.

- Comfortable shoes – Sneakers or hiking sandals are ideal. Avoid flip-flops.
- Swimwear & towel – You can swim or dip your feet in the pools. A quick-dry towel is handy.
- Change of clothes – In case you get wet or sweaty.
- Water bottle – It’s a short hike but you’ll appreciate staying hydrated.
- Snacks – There’s no food available at the falls.
- Sunscreen – You’ll be in the shade mostly, but it can come in handy.
- Dry bag – Optional, but useful to keep electronics safe near the water.

If you’re planning a full day exploring the waterfalls in North Bali, Banyu Wana Amertha is a great place to start. Here are a few others worth visiting nearby:
- Banyumala Twin Waterfalls – Just a short drive away, this spot is known for its stunning double streams and natural pool. A bit of a walk down, but absolutely worth it.
- GitGit – One of the most famous in North Bali. It can get busy, but it’s tall and powerful, surrounded by lush jungle.
- Leke Leke – A bit more south. Narrow falls with a bamboo bridge entrance. Very Instagram-friendly, but also very crowded.
- Nungnung – Further south from the rest, but still doable in a day. It’s a powerful fall with a steep staircase, so be ready for a bit of a climb. We only met a few other people there.
If you have a full day and a scooter or private driver, it’s easy to combine a few of these into a single trip. Just start early and bring snacks and water.
Is Banyu Wana Amertha worth visiting?
Yes, 100%. If you’re into nature, quiet spots, and waterfalls that aren’t overrun with tourists, Banyu Wana Amertha is definitely worth it. The setting feels peaceful, the trail is short and scenic, and you get more than one in one place.
Final thoughts
Banyu Wana Amertha was one of those rare places that looked incredible in photos — and still managed to surprise us in person. The peaceful setting, multiple waterfalls, and lack of big crowds made it a perfect stop during our time in North Bali.
If you’re already heading to Munduk or Bedugul, it’s a no-brainer to add this to your list. It’s easy to reach, doesn’t take a lot of time to explore, and gives you that raw, natural Bali feeling that’s getting harder to find. We’d go back without hesitation.
