Where to Stay in Bangkok: Our Experience
The first time we came to Bangkok, we stayed near Khao San Road — mainly because we wanted to be close to the action, temples, and street food. We loved it. It was super convenient since we could walk to most of the main sights, and there were tons of restaurants, cafés, and markets right around the corner.
Our hostel was about half a kilometer away from Khao San Road, so it wasn’t in the loudest part of the area. If you decide to stay here, choose your location carefully — a few hundred meters can make the difference between a great night’s sleep and hearing party music until 3 AM.
The second time we came back, we wanted to try something different and stayed in Sukhumvit — another one of Bangkok’s most popular areas. It felt completely different from the old-town vibe of Khao San.
Sukhumvit is modern, busy, and full of shopping malls, rooftop bars, and nightlife spots, and it’s one of those neighborhoods that shows just how many options there are when you’re deciding where to stay in Bangkok.
It’s also one of the best-connected areas in the city, thanks to the BTS Skytrain, which makes getting around much easier. We enjoyed the convenience, but the area can feel a bit too commercial if you’re after that traditional Bangkok charm. Still, it’s perfect if you want comfort, great food, and easy transport.
On our third visit to this amazing city, we decided to stay in Siam — right in the heart of Bangkok’s shopping and entertainment zone. Think massive malls, air-conditioned walkways, and stylish cafés on every corner.
It’s a great area if you want to be close to everything, and surprisingly, it feels calmer than you’d expect once you’re off the main roads. We loved the balance of modern comfort and easy access to attractions — you can even walk to some temples or hop on the Skytrain to reach others in minutes.

We stayed here on our first visit and loved the convenience — everything was within walking distance. Our hostel was about 500 meters from Khao San Road, so we were close to the action but could still sleep peacefully.
Even though the BTS and MRT aren’t nearby, the area is well connected by the Chao Phraya Express boats, which make it easy (and cheap!) to reach many top attractions from the river — a fun and unique Bangkok experience. We loved wandering through the narrow streets here — it’s where you really feel the soul of Bangkok. Even though it’s busy during the day, evenings are surprisingly calm once the temples close.
There’s no BTS or MRT nearby, but the Chao Phraya Express boats make it easy (and cheap) to reach other parts of the city, including Chinatown and Icon Siam. We also used Grab Bikes, which was an affordable and fast way to get to different parts of the city.
