Most avid travelers have experienced unpleasant travel-related issues at some point in their lives.
It might have been a medical issue, such as getting food poisoning, an accident while on a skiing trip, or getting a tropical disease like we did (Dengue, we hate you!).
Or you might have an experience with getting your baggage lost by the airline, delayed or cancelled flights, and other common complications. And now after suffering through that, you have to undergo another torture – getting your money back from your travel insurance.
We all know how tiresome submitting a claim might be. The insurance workers just keep asking for more papers and proofs even though you have nothing else to provide.
Well, welcome to the new age of easy travel insurance claim process! Thanks to Nomad Insurance 2.0 by SafetyWing and their fast and simple claim process, getting the money back has never been easier!
So let’s take a close look at what makes SafetyWing’s claim process so special.
Who’s SafetyWing
SafetyWing is a relatively new travel insurance company based in the US. It was founded in 2018. Since it’s almost entirely run by digital nomads, they know exactly what a traveler needs from his insurance!
They mostly focus on travel insurance products made for digital nomads and budget travelers. When compared to the competitors, they provide insurance for a fraction of the cost. Moreover, you’ll be covered in more than 180+ countries.
They offer Nomad Insurance, perfect for short-term travel, Nomad Health tailored for people who work and live abroad, and Remote Health, travel insurance for companies with remote teams.
What’s changed?
So what has been updated in their claims process? If you read reviews from the users, you might notice that many people claim it is incredibly tiring to fill out their claim form. It used to take a long time and they requested a lot of information.
In addition to that, the response and resolution time was also higher than expected. Thus, many customers were not that happy with the service provide.
SafetyWing listened to the feedback and updated the most important part of the travel insurance – the whole claims process!
Now, it takes less than 5 minutes to completely finish the form. You only need to fill out a few things and submit your documents. If you already used the claim form, part of your data is prefilled.
And in addition to that, majority of cases is resolved within 48 hours! How awesome is that, right?
Why this change though? SafetyWing used to work with a partner. This slowed the whole process down. Since they have their own carrier license now, it allows them to create their own products and have direct control over the whole claim process.
Step-by-step guide
Let’s take a closer look at the whole claims process.
1. Log in and open the claim form
First, you need to log in to your SafetyWing account. Head over to your dashboard. This is where you’ll see your package and what it includes. On the right side, you’ll see a “Submit a claim” button. Click on that to start the claim process.
2. Fill out the form
Once you open the form, you have to choose whether your claim is a medical or a non-medical one.
Hit continue and start filling out the information about your claim. This includes the date of the event, country, city, and the bill amount.
In the next step, you’re required to provide a detailed description of what happened. It’s recommended to include all the symptoms and when they occurred. You should also mention if you’ve been treated for this condition in the past, how and when.
Coming to an end of your claim, it’s time to fill out your bank information where you’d like to be reimbursed. This includes the bank name, account holder, IBAN, and country.
Lastly, it’s time to upload all the necessary documents. This should include a note from the medical doctor including your symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment, invoice or receipt showing the breakdown of the cost, and lab tests or scan results if applicable.
Before your claim is submitted, you’ll get to a page where you review your claim. Double-check all the information and ensure everything is correct to avoid prolonging the whole process. Confirm that all your uploaded documents are attached properly.
Now it’s time to finally submit your claim.
3. Status of your claim
After returning to your dashboard, open the “Claims” tab. You’ll find it in the menu on the left side. This is where you can see all your claims and their status.
